CLEAR LEARNING TARGETS

What the students should know and/or be able to do as a result of the lesson.

Developing clear learning targets involves the process of deconstructing/unwrapping/unpacking the standards and organizing them in a progression that works and makes sense (scaffolding.)

What are the benefits of Clear Learning Targets ?

For teachers: Developing Clear Learning Targets will help teachers:
know what to teach;
what to assess and
what activities to plan.

For students: Clear Learning Targets will help students
be able to be responsible for their learning
be able to act on feedback and
be prepared to assess their own progress and learning.



 Types of Learning Targets

Knowledge: facts, concepts, 

Reasoning: thought processes required

Skill: demonstrate a physical skill

Product: describe learning in terms of artifacts in which creation of a product is the focus of the learning target.
