Restroom Procedures

  • Students do NOT go to the restrooms unescorted at any time.
  • Students go into the restroom one at a time.
  • There is no toilet tissue or paper towels in the restroom. Teachers put together a basket with tissue, soap and paper towels that is used for bathroom visits. You can get toilet tissue and paper towels from Mrs. Jackson or Mrs. Walker.
  • There is a boys restroom in the High School wing that is for the High School students.
  • There is a boys restroom  in the Elementary wing that is for Middle School students and Elementary students.
  • There is only one girls restroom and it is located in the Elementary wing.
  • There are also unisex single bathrooms in a few locations in the building. Tell the student not to lock the door - but if they do, the lock is easily opened with a coin or other flat instrument.
  • A common Elementary bathroom routine is as follows: The entire class lines up along the wall opposite the bathroom. The teacher stands in the hall between the students and the bathrooms. One student is standing with the teacher and holding the basket. The teacher calls one student at a time to use the restroom. The students get soap and paper towels from the basket holder. The students return to the line to wait.
  • Bathroom routine should be explicitly taught.
  • Students should be quiet in the halls while waiting for the restroom.
  • Teachers should be attending closely to their students.
